Continued Education
Continued Education — Studio Access & Guided Practice
Continued Education at The Slate Smithery is designed exclusively for students who have successfully completed Silversmithing 101. If you have not taken Silversmithing 101, please sign up for that class first.
This program bridges the gap between structured instruction and independent practice — offering ongoing access to the studio, benches, and professional tools in a supportive, mentorship-style environment.
🛠️ What Continued Education Is
This program functions more like a studio membership or bench rental, giving you the freedom to:
- Work on personal projects at your own pace
- Experiment with advanced fabrication, soldering, and stone-setting techniques
- Develop and complete custom designs with access to all shared equipment
While this is not a step-by-step class, instructor guidance is available for troubleshooting, refining techniques, and discussing design ideas. It’s the perfect next step for students who are ready to grow creatively while still having expert support nearby.
⚒️ Access & Equipment
Students enrolled in Continued Education receive:
- Dedicated bench space during scheduled studio hours
- Full access to shared tools and torches
- Use of rolling mills, polishing stations, soldering setups, and specialty tools
- On-site support from instructor Danielle Slate for technique assistance and project development
You’ll bring your own materials and consumables (metal, solder, stones), allowing full creative control over what you build. Also please bring your tools from your Silversmithing 101 class.
🕯️ How It Works
- Enrollment is month-to-month
- Students can choose two evenings per week for studio access
- Limited seats available to ensure plenty of bench space and torch time
- Prior completion of Silversmithing 101 is required to ensure safety and equipment proficiency
💎 Why Continued Education Matters
This program is built for the stage between learning and mastery — where skill becomes style.
It provides an environment to:
- Reinforce everything learned in Silversmithing 101
- Build a personal body of work
- Develop professional habits and creative flow in a shared studio community
Whether you’re working on commission pieces, portfolio work, or personal creative projects, The Slate Smithery remains your professional workspace — a place to keep growing, experimenting, and refining your craft.
